Uganda is known as the ‘Pearl of Africa’: an unforgettable yet affordable wildlife and birding destination. A safe, friendly country with good roads and excellent training programs for local guides, Uganda has become one of Africa’s most outstanding destinations for birders and wildlife enthusiasts. Not only does it offer the prehistoric looking Shoebill, Green-breasted Pitta, African Green Broadbill and a host of Albertine Rift Endemics, but it also has a multitude of primates including the critically endangered Mountain Gorilla and Chimpanzee. During our reconnaissance trip we recorded over 420 species of birds and 40 mammal species! Join our Australian and local guide on this tour and marvel at the sheer numbers and diversity of birds. We’ve designed this trip to be manageable in length and affordable while offering the best of Uganda including Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, Kibale National Park and Murchison Falls. We’ll stay at comfortable lodges, often very scenically located.
There’s an amazing variety of birds, ranging from the stately Shoebill and magnificent diversity of weavers to masses of northern hemisphere migrants including wagtails, chats and raptors, while local specialties include Papyrus Gonolek, Blackwinged Bishop, Brown Twinspot, African Finfoot, many species of Sunbird, Brown Parrot, Red-faced Lovebird, White-throated Bee-eater, Red-tailed Ant-thrush, Purple-headed Starling, White-spotted Flufftail, Mackinnon’s Fiscal, Tropical Boubou, Silverbird, Black-lored Babbler, Double-toothed Barbet, African Paradise-flycatcher, many species of Greenbul, Red-headed Malimbe, Golden-breasted Bunting…. and more.
