Sabah: Jewel of Borneo
5 June 2020 - 15 June 2020
Sabah, a part of Malaysia located in northern Borneo, is a heaven for birds and wildlife. Teeming rainforests fan out from Mount Kinabalu to the lowlands and coast. The wildlife is incomparable, with a host of enticing birds (including 48 endemics) and a charismatic mammal fauna (including Orangutan and Pygmy Elephant). Our Sabah tour is a great opportunity to visit this unique part of Malaysia. It can be taken as a stand-alone, or as an add-on to our preceding Peninsular Malaysia tour.
Our Sabah tour covers some of the finest birding and natural hotspots of Sabah, home to some of the world’s best rainforest and montane habitats. The area contains a wide variety of birds, many of which are endemic to small regions. During the tour we’ll witness some unique plants such as the Rafflesia, beautiful tropical butterflies, and fantastic wildlife including highly endangered Orangutans and Pygmy Elephants as well as many species of primate, squirrel and native cats. Comfortable and reliable, the tour is guided by our expert local bird guide, one of the best in Malaysia, and accompanied by one of our amicable Australian guides who has extensive experience in South-east Asia. Together they‘ll make sure the tour runs smoothly and that you won’t need to worry about anything – enjoy the wildlife, scenery and birds! This tour takes us to the montane forests of Mt Kinabalu, across the is-land to the lowland forests at the Sepilok Rainforest Centre, up the mighty Kinabatangan River to the huge Gomantong Caves and finally to the spectacular rainforests in the world-renowned Danum Valley Conservation Area, one of the world’s best rain-forest destinations. We’ll stay at comfortable, quality accommodation with delightful meals to suit all taste-buds. During our previous tours we’ve recorded over 235 species of birds and 28 mammals.
